Dillard Superstop Plans Grand OpeningPublished Wednesday, August 7, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesSome lucky visitor to the new Dillard Shell Superstop will win 200 gallons of Formula Shell gasoline at the grand opening ceremonies Aug. 8-9. The new Shell Superstop is located at Interstate 30 and Highway 53. In addition to the 200 gallons of gasoline, 10 gallons of gas will be given away every hour Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. And, there will be six big winners Friday from 4-5 p.m. Patrons are invited to register to win every time they visit. Some of the goodies up for grabs include a Coca Cola wooden clock, a gold golf putter, six Tom's Old Time Cookie Jars filled with candy, a Shell teddy bear, a Shell vintage airplane, tee shirts, caps, race cars and many other prizes. From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday there will be free hot dogs and soft drinks for all comers. But this isn't all. Those planning to come by need to bring their cameras so they can take pictures of Jim and Julie, the "mules" delivering gasoline the old-fashioned way. The younger set will enjoy visiting with the clown, while the Coulson mini-tanker will make an appearance as well. If this isn't incentive enough, the first 50 customers on hand to buy gas Thursday and Friday will receive a free Dallas Cowboy glass. Along with the glass giveaway, the Gurdon High School cheerleaders will provide full-service for those coming to the self-service pumps from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. They will wash windshields and pump gas for the customers, all at self-service price.
