HIPPY Begins

Published Wednesday, August 14, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

Clark County Youth Development Center will begin a new pre-school HIPPY (Home Instruction Program for Parents and Preschool Youngsters) in Gurdon and other communities in Clark County.

The program will begin on August 26.

The program will be provided for children who are now four years of age, or will become four by October 1. If a child becomes five years old after the deadline date to enter kindergarten, he may participate in HIPPY. Children are required to remain in the program for two years.

HIPPY is a home-based early intervention program that helps parents provide educational enrichment for their preschool children. The program stresses the vital role that parents play in their children's early education.

By supporting parents, HIPPY's primary goal is to increase vulnerable children's success in school and, ultimately, in adult life.

Children enrolled in daycare or headstart programs are eligible to participate, if those programs are not receiving ABC funding from the State Department of Education.

There is a limited number of slots open for children to participate in the program. If you would like to enroll your child in the program, you must register your child by August 19.

For more information concerning the program, contact Delores Hodge at the center at 353-6145.
