Military NewsPublished Wednesday, August 14, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneJonesboro resident U.S. Army Reserve Lieutentant Colonel Dennis W. White, formerly of Prescott, has received the Army Commendation Medal with 3rd Oak Leaf Cluster from Maj. Gen. James M. McDougal, commander of the 90th Regional Support Command, headquartered in North Little Rock. The 90th is a major U.S. Army Reserve command with nearly 25,000 soldiers in 200 units throughout the five-state area of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico. White, who serves as manpower development chief in the unit's force development section, received the award for his work on the Army Communities of Excellence program. The 90th received a $100,000 award in the Army- wide competiton which seeks units with outstanding community awareness and interaction. A member of the Army Reserve for 27 years, White has been a member of the 90th and its predecessor, the 122d Army Reserve Command, for 13 years. He is a 1964 graduate of Prescott High School and earned his doctorate degree from Southern Illinois University in 1990. He serves as an assistant professor of communications at Arkansas State University. He is the son of Mrs. Dena White of Prescott and the late Tom White. White and his wife, Vicki, have have one daughter. Staff Sergeant William N. Mullins of Prescott, a member of Co A (-) 1-153d Infantry at Prescott, Arkansas Army National Guard has been awarded the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (fifth award). He is currently employed by the Bank of Prescott. He is the son of Alta Mullins of Hope and the late Othor Mullins. He began his military career in August 1971 and has received the following awards: Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Arkansas Service Ribbon and the Arkansas Emergency Service Ribbon. Mullins and his wife, Helen, live in Prescott. PV2 Willie A. Christopher of Rosston, a member of Company A (-) 1- 153d Infantry at Prescott, Arkansas Army National Guard, has been promoted to the rank of Private First Class. He is a graduate of Nevada High School. PFC Christopher entered the military on January 9, 1995 and has received the following medals: Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Ribbon. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie B. Christopher of Rosston, he is assigned as an assistant machine gunner. Sergeant Lacy R. Hill of Hope, a member of Co A (-) 1-153d Infantry at Prescott, Arkansas Army National Guard has been awarded the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (fifth award). He is currently employed by Firestone Building Products of Prescott. He is the son of Georgia Hill and the late James Hill. He began his military career in August 1971 and has received the following awards: Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Arkansas Service Ribbon. Hill and his wife, the former Patricia Mason, live in Hope. Sge. Harold Kirby of Prescott, a member of Co A (-) 1-153rd Infantry at Prescott, Arkansas Army National Guard has been awarded the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (5th Award). He is the son of Mrs. Lola Kirby and the late Claudell Kirby of Prescott. He began his military career in Dec. 1977 and has received the following awards: Army Service Ribbon; Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and the Arkansas Service Ribbon.
