No Fatalities

Published Wednesday, August 14, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Fortunately, there were no fatalities Monday, Aug. 5, when a 1990 Lincoln, owned and driven by Robert M. Parker, 43, of Little Rock, was struck by a semi owned by Roadway Express, driven by Jimmy Meeks, 29, of Memphis, Tenn. The accident occurred when Parker, driving west on Interstate 30 and towing a boat, was attempting to pass the semi, when the boat trailer's right tire blew out, causing him to swerve into the path of the truck. Meeks lost control of the semi, causing the rear trailer of the double-tandem to flip onto its side, while the rest of the truck crossed the interstate into a wooded area. Meeks complained of a rib injury, but, otherwise, there were no serious injuries. The accident occurred at 3:20 p.m. Aug. 5. The Arkansas State Police issued no citations at the time.
