Football Facts

Published Wednesday, August 14, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Editor's note: This is the 10th of a 12-part series of a column by Prescott High School football coach Eddie Jackson. The articles will deal with information on the upcoming football season as well as a look back at some facts and stats about Curley Wolf football from the last 25 years. These statistics came from the post-season booklet prepared for each player.

COMING EVENTS: Aug. 14: Wolves retreat at DeGray. Aug. 15-16: Teacher's meeting. Friday, Aug. 16: Cubs (8th and 9th grades) squads meeting at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23: Press Day and Maroon-White scrimmage.

COACH'S CORNER: The Wolves had a respectable number of candidates report to our three-day mini-camp last week. If everyone stays with the program our squad size will be up to around 48-49 plyers. Even though our school enrollment has dropped slightly over the last few years,it is a positive sign to see our squad numbers back to a point to be competitive in 7AA.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Ross Cowling, te/de, has gained some valuable experience for the last two years and it should pay off for him and the Wolves this season. He has gained some strength, which will help him on the defensive side of the ball.

'96 SCHEDULE, SCOUT REPORT: In week 8, the Wolves will take a break from 7AA action as they travel to Junction City for a non-copnference game. The Dragons have some great talent coming off two good junior high teams, so they contacted us about playing. They want another shot at defeating the Wolves, something they accomplished only three times in our series.

WORD OF THE WEEK: Determination -- The quality of being firm in purpose.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: How successful a person will be is directly related to how determined that individual is. In any endeavor committment is related to quality. Will the Wolves be determined at Junction City?
