This week's news:Published Wednesday, July 21, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneI don't have much news to report this week. All of those who were away on trips the last week or two have returned safely. David and June Nicholas reported a good time on their visit to Iowa, but needed a day or two to recuperate when they got back home. Charles and Patricia Farr made their trip to Nashville with no problems, thanks to some help from Jody Nelson, who lives there. Missy Beaver enjoyed her trip out west. She got to visit Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole, Wyo., and other places. She said it was even snowing in one place. Bill Carman's father, Elgie Carman, passed away Sunday. Our sympathy to this family. Do you remember what happened in Bluff City 20 years ago this month? The power went off for several hours. Bro. Ordis Copeland was preaching at a gospel meeting at that time. Some of the men hooked up a generator and hung a floodlight over the pulpit and preaching went on as usual. I don't remember which songs were sung, but 'Send the Light' seemed appropriate at the time. Our thought this week is attributed to Abraham Lincoln: "If I had eight hours to cut down a tree, I'd spend seven hours sharpening my axe."
