Bluff CityJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, July 21, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Last week's news: Doris Barlow had most of her family visiting over the Fourth of July holiday. Milton, who lives in Mississippi, preached at Bluff City on Sunday. Bobby Barlow and his family from Tennessee were also home for the holiday. Adam McKelvy from DeQueen visited his grandmother, Vernell Loe, during the holiday. While some came home to Bluff City for the holiday, others left to visit other places. Bill and Kay Sellers traveled to Texas for a family reunion. Charles and Patricia Farr left early one morning for Nashville, Tenn. They were helping LeAnn move to that area. David and June Nicholas traveled to Iowa to visit relatives. I haven't heard reports from any of these trips, so I assume everyone has arrived back home by now. Rex and Sandra Hildebrand have also been in the moving business. They were helping Stacy and Jennifer move to Atlanta, Texas, where Stacy will be working in the school system this fall. Our sweet corn got ready just in time for the holiday, so putting up corn was the way we celebrated. Be careful in the heat this summer. A young man I know has already been hospitalized for getting too hot while working. Besides the heat, there are other things to watch out for like snakes, ticks, chiggers and poison ivy. I have never been bothered with poison ivy, but I sympathize with those who are. Maybe we should be like Steven Wright and look at these things in a humourous light. He says that while on a picnic, his girlfriend got poison ivy on her brain. The only way she could scratch the itch was to think about sandpaper.
