Local Educators Attend WorkshopPublished Wednesday, August 21, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneLocal educators of Upsilon Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a profesional organization of key women educators, attended the 1996 state workshop in North Little Rock, August 9-10. The educators participated in Society business meetings and attended personal and professional growth workshops. Keynote speaker at the luncheon was Dr. Marolane Stevenson, member-at- large of the international administrative board. As a graduate of the Kappa state leadership seminar, Micki Johnson presented information on parliamentary procedure in a workshop for in-coming presidents. June Johnson, past president of Upsilon Chapter, attended a Society business meeting and professional growth workshops. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is actively involved in promoting the professional and personal growth of women educators and promoting excellence in education through leadership development workshops and seminars, graduate scholarships for members, study stipends that allow members to pursue research or to attend international conventions in their fields, and an educational issues program. The Society's World Fellowhips program grants $2,500 fellowships to international women scholars for graduate studies in United States or Canadian universities. In July, Micki Johnston, media specialist at Prescott High School, participated in the fifth annual Kappa state leadership seminar held at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Participants were selected from across the state of Arkansas. Johnston was selected for this honor for her work in the Society, her abilities as a professional educator, and her involvement in the community. Upsilon Chapter provided funding for Johnston's participation in the seminar. Instruction during the intense four days training included sessions about Society procedures, distance learning, health issues, and leadership roles and techniques.
