Inspector's Information Given To Dept. Of HealthPublished Wednesday, August 21, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneInformation from an inspector with the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission, dealing with the Davis Cafe, has been turned over to the Arkansas Department of Health. According to Danny Hughes, poultry and egg division director of the commission, the agency is not working to get rid of the Egg Marketing Act of 1969. This act, he said, is the backbone of how the agency operates. However, there is one portion of the act the commission would like to eliminate, and it deals with those people with 200 birds or less selling eggs. In talking about the Davis situation, though, Hughes said restaurants are governed by federal law and must use grade B or better eggs. How big the eggs are has nothing to do with their grade, Hughes said. He also said there was no major confrontation between an inspector and Larry Davis, owner of Davis Cafe. Hughes said when Davis was told the law, he simply pointed out what was wrong with it. "We don't argue with people," Hughes said. He added the inspector has no personal grudge or vendetta against Davis. "Davis knew what he was doing was wrong," Hughes said. "He was in violation for the type of eggs he had, not because he wouldn't tell where he got them from." Hughes said the ADH has been notified of the situation and are working to contact the Nevada County Sanitarian. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
