Man Is Killed Trying To Help Fallen Cow

Published Wednesday, August 21, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

A freak accident claimed the life of a Prescott man Sunday.

Jimmy Norwood, 34, was hauling cattle to Kruse Meat Products, Inc. in Saline County, when he apparently noticed a cow had fallen from the top of the trailer's cattle rack to the bottom, according to Saline County Sheriff Judy Pridgen.

He apparently attempted to move the cow, but was unable to. Norwood suffered chest injuries or suffocated when the cow fell against him. Because of injuries the animal suffered in the fall, it was unable to stand on its own, the sheriff said.

Two travelers found Norwood lying face down on the ground near the trailer and called emergency personnel. He was pronounced dead at the Saline Memorial Hospital.
