60th Nevada Co. Fair Begins September 17Published Wednesday, August 21, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneWhat? Can it be? Football season hasn't begun yet, and it's already time for the Nevada County Fair. Tim Clarke, with the extension service, said this year's fair should be bigger and better than ever, with the Southern Fun Carnival handling the midway festivities. Clarke said seven major rides, along with nine kiddie rides have been scheduled for the fair, with 15 to 20 games along the midway and three or four food concessions for when visitors get hungry. Though the fair isn't here yet, one change has already been made, according to Clarke. The talent show will be held Saturday night before the beauty contest. And, girls, deadline for entering the beauty pageants is Sept. 1, not Sept. 6 as is listed in the Nevada County Fair book. However, with the fair scheduled for Sept. 17-21, Clarke said entries will begin coming in Sunday, Sept. 15, with the various events being entered through Monday, Sept. 16. Tuesday will be the first actual day of the fair, starting with the annual parade downtown. Again, the parade will follow its normal route through Prescott. However, because of a rainout last year, Clarke said there is a rain date built in for this year's event. In case it rains Tuesday, the parade will be held Wednesday, Sept 18. Armband night will be Tuesday and Saturday evenings. Those purchasing the $9 armbands will be allowed to ride all the rides they want. Clarke said those wanting to buy advance ride tickets can purchase 20 for $8 in advance, while they will cost $11 for 20 tickets at the gate. Each ride will take three or four tickets, depending on which ride it is. And, there is more good news. This year, the admission to get into the fair has been cut in half. Now, patrons of the fair can get in for $1. Clarke said the livestock show will be held Wednesday night, while the premium sale will be held Thursday evening. Also on Thursday, Clarke said, the junior fair queen contest will be held. Friday night will see the return of the horse show, which is proving to be a popular event at the fair. Saturday will bring the talent show and fair queen contest, and also the end to the 60th Annual Nevada County Fair. "It looks like it's going to be a good one," Clarke said of this year's fair. "We're looking forward to it." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
