Reed and Hulan live at Gurdon. Linda Hulan and Cheryl Reed, both of Gurdon, attended the Arkansas Educational Association seminar leadership conference this summer. The conference was held at Fort Smith July 31 through August 2. Hulan is vice president of the Gurdon Education Association. This is her second year as vice president. Reed is the president of the Hope Education Association. This is also her second term. At the conference Hulan and Reed learned about organizing at the local level. The focus was on becoming politically involved, since almost everything concerning education and public schools is determined through a governing political agency at some level. The second major emphasis was on involving the community in the schools. This not only means asking for volunteers and donations, but keeping the public informed of activities and needs of the school, and trying to help meet some of the needs of the community. They proclaimed the conference very productive and informative. They said they hope some of the goals set at the conference can be obtained in each of the local associaitons they represent this coming school year. Hulan and Reed also toured the historical sites of Fort Smith and parts of Oklahoma while in the area. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
