Civil War Sept. 7, 8

{Old Washington Historic State Park will host the 6th annual Civil War weekend on Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8.<} {On Saturday, a scripted tactical will take place. Several groups will be recreating life during the Civil War era.<} {Medical impression groups from Russellville and Hot Spring will be at the newly restored 1836 courthouse and Tavern Inn.<} {The Sanders house is the site for the ladies' tea and children's activities.<} {At 7:00 p.m., a Civil War era ball, #"Dance Under the Pecans" will take place behind Williams Tavern Restaurant with music provided by Southern Destiny.<} {Sunday morning begins with a Civil War era church service at Washington Methodist Church at 9:00 a.m.<} {Cavalry competition will take place on the public square at 10:00 a.m., with a reenacted battle taking place at 1:00 p.m. at the Brunson Plantation house. The public is invited to attend these events free of charge.<} {The 1874 courthouse (at the corner of State Highway 4 and Highway 195) will be the site for the troops' quartermaster.<} {Over 500 reenactors are expected to attend from Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Louisiana, Missouri and Kansas. Units represented include cavalry, artillery and infantry.<} {Both Union and Confederate camps will be open to the public.<} {Sutlers will be selling their wares both days close to the Purdom house.<} {The 1874 courthouse also hosts exhibits which are free to the public, and the Mercantile which sells unique items relating to the interpretation period of the park which is 1824-1874.<} {Guided walking tours of restored homes and museums will be available both days.<} {Tickets may be purchased at the visitor information center, located at the 1874 courthouse.<} {Williams Tavern Restaurant will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.<} {Old Washington Historic State Park is located eight miles northwest of Hope. From Interstate 30, take exit 30 and follow the signs on State Highway 4 to the park.<}
