Beth Culpepper Attends Summar Aegis ProgramPublished Wednesday, August 28, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune{Beth Culpepper attended the Academic Enrichment for the Gifted in Summer (AEGIS) program, Aerospace #_ the Final Frontier last month.<} {The program was based on the campus of Arkansas State University from July 14-26. Thirty high school students from across the state were accepted from among over 200 applications.<} {Aerospace the Final Frontier was a program which incorporated both classroom instruction and #"hands-on" experience in the field of aerospace education.<} {Students have the opportunity to learn basic principles of flight, as well as create their own hot air balloons, kites, airplanes and rockets. These students, accompanied by professional staff and experts in the aviation field, gained an understanding and appreciation of the enormous impact that aviation and space has on their lives.<} {This program had some lectures, much #"hands-on" work, many field trips, and a lot of new experiences.<} {Some of the field trips were visits to Little Rock Air Force Base, Millington Naval Air Station, Jonesboro Airport, Arkansas Aerospace Center and Marshall Space Center in Huntsville, Alabama.<} {This program was sponsored by the Crowley's Ridge Education Service Cooperative in Harrisburg, with funding provided by the Arkansas Department of Education, authorized by Act 3, first extraordinary session, 1983.<} Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
