Program To BeginPublished Wednesday, July 21, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesThe Clark County Prosecuting Attorney's office announces a new program through the hot check department. Beginning August 1 the prosecutor will offer an amnesty program for individuals who have outstanding hot checks warrants which have not yet been served. Individuals with outstanding hot check warrants will have the opportunity to take advantage of this temporary program. Persons with outstanding misdemeanor hot check warrants issued prior to August 1 will be able to participate in this program. They will be eligible to pay their hot checks at the prosecuting attorney's office at 201 North 10th St. in Arkadelphia either in person or by mail. If a person has written a check and pays before August 31, no warrant will be served. This will save the defendant a fine, court costs, possible time in jail and a criminal record. After August 31 the prosecuting attorney's office will began publishing a list of individuals who have outstanding warrants and have not taken advantage of the amnesty program. At that time, the public is asked to notify the Clark County Sheriff's Department if they know the whereabouts of any person on the list. Individuals whose checks total over $200 can be charged with a felony. Punishment for felony hot checks can range from three to 20 years in the Department of Correction and fines of up to $20,000.
