Gurdon's Schedule Is Not Easy

Published Wednesday, September 4, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

Football is in the air, and after a month's preparation, the Gurdon Go-Devils will take the field Friday night as they host the Fouke Panthers.

Game time for all the Go-Devils' games is 7:30 each Friday night. Gurdon has an open date next week.

Fouke has moved from the 7A South Conference to the 7AA Conference, while Gurdon has moved from the 7AA Conference to the 7A West Conference in football. They will be in a different conference when basketball time rolls around.

Last year at Fouke the Go-Devils came away with a big victory.

In fact, Gurdon did exceptionally well until its defeat against Stamps. Injuries in the Stamps game caused a complete turn-around for the Go-Devils, but Gurdon made the state play-offs anyway only to lose to Pocahontas in the first game.

Moving out of the 7AA Conference with Gurdon were Junction City and Stamps. Stamps made it to the same conference as Gurdon, but Junction City has moved to 7A East.

Prescott will host Gurdon the third week of the new season. The Curley Wolves were last year's state champions in Class AA. While they may not repeat they will be a tough team for the Go-Devils.

Gurdon will open conference play on September 27 against Mineral Springs. The Go Devils will host the Hornets.

On October 4, the Go-Devils will travel to Dierks for more conference action.

They will host the Stamps Yellowjackets on October 11.

Lewisville will host the Go-Devils on October 18.

Gurdon's homecoming will be October 25, when the Go-Devils will play the Foreman Gators.

The Go-Devils will travel to Murfreesboro November 1.

Gurdon closes out the regular season on November when the Go-Devils will play host to the Horatio Lions in a conference game.

While the Go-Devils has slipped to Class A action, it was due only to the number of students in school and not due to their ability to win. Fans can expect a lot from the Go-Devils in this new conference.

However, there are a lot of tough teams to butt heads with the Go- Devils: Murfreesboro, Mineral Springs and Stamps just to name three.

It won't be a piece of cake for Gurdon.
