Classy Moments from GHS

Published Wednesday, September 4, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

We are just as busy as we can be at GMS. As needed, we have made some changes to make the learning process better for the students, as well as for the teachers. Mrs. White, teacher of art, had moved her class to the High School and we were going to bus our art students to that building one time a day. That has been changed, Mrs. White comes back to our building instead of busing the students to her, and it is working with a big GREAT OKAY! We are so fortunate to have the art talent of Mrs. White, just one of those we rather take for granted. Let me take this time just to say a big thank you Mrs. White for bringing out that talent in our students that some didn't know they had.

Mrs. McBride has received her training in the computer lab and is ready to get to work, "look out kids" she's ready and waiting!! All kidding aside, we wish her nothing but success in her new position. If you need to install a "mouse" be sure and ask Mrs. McBride and Mrs. Ross to help you, as they have had plenty of practice.

Thursdays are to be "Purle and Gold Day" during football season. Students and teachers are to wear those colors on Thursday to show our support for the Jr. High Go Devils. The football players wear a football jersey on that day, so we have no doubt who is a player.

We also have a Pep Rally on Thursday afternoons, so if you hear LOUD YELLING ust join us, as you are always welcome to come for a visit. If you have not attended a GMS Pep Rally, you don't know what you have missed. The cheerleaders lead us in new and old cheers and they are simply wonderful. Mrs. Lea Purifoy is the Jr. High Sonsor, and we thank her for being such a dedicated friend, teacher, mom, nurse, counsular, chauffeur, leader, and many other labels that she wears while taking care of those girls.

If you have noticed the planters in front of the building you can thank Mrs. Roe, as she has the green thumb around here. We see her taking the time to make sure those plants receive enough water and sunlight. See what I mean when I told you we stay busy at GMS?

We are still reminding some energetic students to walk in the hall instead of running, and to get everything they need from the lockers before the tardy bell rings. Several have "FOUND" D-Hall. We do have students that walk and not run, and bring the required materials to class on time, of which we appreciate so very much.

It does seem as though the smaller the students, the bigger the musical instrument they have. We watch as they strain, learning as they walk, but smiling with pride as they go to band practice. We do enjoy hearing our band students perform. Mr. Burson, band director, encourages those students to do their best and make music they didn't kow they could. A bouquet to you Mr. Burson.

If you enjoy our article each week, please call the Gurdon Times and let them know, or call our school 353-4311 and tell us. You are important to us and we appreciate your support as we continue to make classy moments at GMS.
