Membership Jury To ConvenePublished Wednesday, July 21, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesThe Arkansas Craft Guild's 1999 summer membership jury will be August 10. If you are an Arkansas resident craft artist, and are looking for new opportunities to market your products, you should apply for membership to the guild. The Arkansas Craft Guild is the only state-wide, multimedia craft organization in Arkansas. Formed as a cooperative in 1962, the guild's purpose was to revive traditional crafts and insure its survival. The current membership consists of over 300 highly talented artists, creating contemporary as well as traditional designs. The guild offers marketing opportunities in its four retail outlets, the Arkansas Craft Galleries. The guild also promotes its members' work through an annual Christmas showcase held in the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock and through artist receptions, where members show and demonstrate their craft work. The guild's committee is a seven-member panel comprised of artisans, who are masters in various media. At each jury, prospective members' crafts are judged on standards of design, originality, function and craftsmanship. Membership benefits include guild stock, discounts at guild shops, reduced rates for participating in guild shows, voting privileges, and a quarterly guild newsletter. Members also have the possibility of having their products carried in one or more of the guild shops and being featured in gallery receptions. Applications may be obtained through August 9 at all four Arkansas Craft Galleries located in Mountain View, Hot Springs, Eureka Springs and Fayetteville or by contacting the administrative offices in Mountain View at Arkansas Guild, P.O. Box 800, Mountain View, AR 72560. The phone number is 870-269-3897. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
