Edith Randle

Edith Randle, of Little Rock, formerly of Prescott, died Thursday, September 5, 1996, in St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.

Born in Ozan, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Minnie Coleman Draper. She was a member of Cothran Chapel C.M.E. Church in Prescott, where she served as church clerk, choir member, stewardess, board of Christian education and missionary society. A retired school teacher, she graduated from Yerger High School in Hope, Philander Smith College in Little Rock, University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and Little Rock, and Henderson State University in Arkadelphia.

She was a member of National Association of Colored Women Club, National Council of Negro Women, Nevada County Retired Teachers, Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies and NAACP.

Survivors include a daughter, Clare Alale of Little Rock; two sons, George Garmon of Spring Valley, N.Y., and Bertran A. Garmon of Hot Springs; a stepson, William Randle Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif. and a stepdaughter, Evelyn Randle of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Clovis D. Washington of Brooklyn, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, September 10, at Cothran C.M.E. Church with Rev. T. Davis officiating. Burial was in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Williams Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
