For the second year, the Nevada County Fair will present a horse show.

All Nevada County youths are invited and encouraged to participate. The horse show will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 at the fairgrounds, with registration beginning at 5 p.m.

This year, an old timer's event will be added to the horse show.

All horses entered must have current coggins papers. These papers must be presented at the time of registration.

The 60th Annual Nevada County Fair is scheduled for Sept. 17-21, and should be bigger and better than ever, according to Tim Clarke, county agent.

This year, Clarke said, the midway, rides and carney booths, will be handled by Southern Fun Carnival.

Southern is expected to bring in seven major rides for the big kids, and nine rides for the younger children. Clarke said between 15 and 20 game booths will be erected along the midway as well, along with plenty of food concessions for when the visitors get hungry and thirsty.

One change has been made to the schedule, Clarke said. The talent show will be held Saturday night, right before the fair queen contest.

The little miss pageant will be held Thursday night, for the younger contestants.

Those planning to enter the various events need to be getting ready. Contests can be entered starting Sunday, Sept. 15, continuing through Monday, Sept. 16.

Tuesday will be the first official day of the fair, beginning with the annual fair parade downtown. The parade will follow its traditional route through the city. However, due to rain last year, Clarke said, a rain date has been added for this year's parade. Should it rain, the parade will be held Wednesday.

Tuesday will also be armband night, as will Saturday evening. Those buying the $9 armbands will be allowed to ride all the rides they can tolerate for the one price.

Those wanting advanced tickets to the rides can purchase them in bundles of 20 for $8, while they will cost $11 for the same number of tickets at the gate. Each ride, Clarke said, will take three or four tickets.

But there's even more good news for fair goers this year. The admission price has been reduced to $1.

The livestock show will be held Wednesday, with the premium sale Thursday.

Friday night marks the return of the horse show.

The fair will end Saturday with the fair queen pageant and closing of the midway.
