Prescott Distr. Seeks Revolving Loan For Insurance Shortfalls

Published Wednesday, September 11, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

At this time, the Prescott School District is not sure its insurance will pay 100 percent of the cost to rebuild Prescott High School.

Because of this, the Prescott School Board, in a special meeting last week, decided to apply fora revolving loan from the Arkansas Department of Education for $392,000.

"This gives us money in case it's needed above what the insurance pays," Don Johnston, Prescott superintendent, said.

The ADE will decide on the application in its Oct. 14 meeting. Johnston said the board made the decision to apply now so the paperwork could be done and the application submitted in a timely manner.

However, Johnston said, if the insurance does pay the complete cost of reconstruction, the district doesn't have to accept the loan. But, if the money is needed, the district will have eight years to repay it.

The only other item of business conducted was to hire kindergarten teacher Debbie Brannon.

This was done because of an increase in enrollment.
