Poem Is Published

Published Wednesday, September 18, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

One of Prescott Middle School's former students became a published author last year as an eighth grader when one of her poems was accepted for publication in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans which was just released last month.

Nicole Martin is now a ninth grade student at Prescott High School and has been notified by the National Library of Poetry that she is a semi- finalist in the 1996 North American Open Poetry Contest. Her poem, Why Must You go Away, has been entered in the final competition that will be held this winter. Her work will be published in a collection on poetery entitled Of Moonlight and Wishes, scheduled to be released in winter 1997. Nicole wrote this poem in honor of Janice Horton who resigned last year from her position as sixth grade math teacher at Prescott Middle School.
