Crop Deadline Nears

Published Wednesday, September 18, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

September 30 is the final date for a producer to obtain multi-peril crop insurance for fall seeded crops (wheat and nursery crops).

Producers are required to maintain at a minimum, CAT insurance for any economically significant crop for which insurance is available or sign an FSA-570 waiver.

The waiver allows farmers to waive eligibility for emergency crop loss assistance while maintaining eligibilty for commodity loans and LDPs, Production Flexibility Programs (AMTA), certain FSA loans and the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

CAT coverage is subsidized and you are only required to pay an administrative fee of $50 per crop not to exceed $200 per county and $600 nationwide.

Important dates to remember for fall crops are sales closing date, September 30; cancellation date, September 30; final planting date (wheat), November 30; and acreage report date, December 15.

Fees for new crop policies are due by the September 30 closing date. Fees for carry over policies are due by the final acreage reporting date. Non-payment of fees will result in termination of the policy. No fees are required for zero acreage reports.

Contact Hempstead-Nevada County FSA office for additional information at (501) 777-3764.
