Bismarck, Nashville Win Friday

Published Wednesday, September 18, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Prescott's record improved last week to 2-0 for the year. Better than that, the Curley Wolves record for the last two years is now 16-0-1.

A tie last year at Hope prevented a perfect record for the Wolves. The last loss was against Fordyce in 1994, the last game of the season.

The Curley Wolves had 14 wins last year, two of them against the Nashville Scrappers, one during regular season and the last in the championsip game at Little Rock.

Nashville keeps winning this year, too, against the same opponents as Prescott. In the first game, they defeated Junction City, 54-6.

However, last week they had a tough time against Ashdown, 43-40. The Scrappers trailed the Panthers during the game, and they had to come from behind to win. This week the Scrappers will play Hope.

Prescott has not played Junction City yet, but the Curley Wolves defeated Ashdown, 27-12, in their first game, and Hope last week, 25-16.

This week the Curley Wolves will host the Gurdon Go-Devils. Gurdon was idle last week.

The annual Nevada County Picayune-Gurdon Times traveling plaque will be awarded the winner of the game Friday night.

Giving the award to the winner was begun last year by the two papers with Prescott getting it for the first year. It was destroyed in a fire earlier this year, but a duplicate will be available Friday night.

The Curley Wolves will travel to Bismarck next week to meet the Lions in Prescott's first 7AA Conference game. The Lions are new to Class AA, having moved up from Class A this year. Last week they defeated Central Arkansas Christian, 38-12. They are 2-0 for the season.

Prescott's will be at Nashville on October 4 for another conference game. Jerod McBride and Company will be after revenge this year. That should be one of the better games of the year, hopefully in favor of Prescott.

On October 11, the Curley Wolves will host De Queen for their third conference game. De Queen lost, 28-6, Friday night to Stamps, a former 7AA school. De Queen is now 0-2 with its first loss being against Mena.

Fountain Lake, Prescott's host on October 18, defeated Lewisville, 51-20, last week. They are new to the 7AA Conference.

Prescott will travel to Junction City October 25 to meet the Dragons in a non-conferene matchup. Junction City fell to Bearden Friday, 28-0. The Dragons are 0-2.

The Last two games for Prescott are at home.

On November 1, they will host Fouke. The Panthers are 2-0 for the season with a 28-6 victory last week against Dierks. The preceding week they beat Gurdon 9-6.

The last regular game for Prescott will be Thursday, November 7, against the Fordyce Redbugs. The redbugs are 1-1 for the season. In their first game they were defeated by Rison. Last week they handled Class AAAA Sheridan, 28-14.
