Highway Project Work Planned for Nevada CountyPublished Wednesday, September 18, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened bids for a project to imporove two Nevada County roads, according to Highway Comissioner John "M" Lipton of Warren. The first project will replace three bridges on Highway 4 between Rosston and the Quachita County line. Robertson Contractors, Inc., of Poplar Bluff, Mo., was awarded a $1,621,186.22 contract for the work. The project is expected to be completed by January, 1998. "The new bridges will have wider traffic lanes and will improve safety," said Lipton. The seocnd project will overlay a 8-mile section of Highway 67 from Hope to Emmet. L.J. Earnest, Inc. of Shreveport, La., was awarded a $710,537.71 contract for the work. "The Commission believes it is very important to take care of our existing facilities and the overlay program is a cost-effective way of accomplishing that," Lipton noted. "We will spend about $20 million on overlays this year." Lipton said construction could begin on both projects in six to eight weeks, weather permitting.
