Emmet District Growing, In CompliancePublished Wednesday, September 18, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Emmet School District held a public meeting on September 9 in the school cafetorium to inform patrons of the school's goals, policies, programs and improvements. Dr. Gene Ross, superintendent of Emmet School District, reported an increase in enrollment of over 10 percent. Emmet School goals for the 1996-97 school year are as follows: 1. Improve the average readings score in the SAT-8 for students in grades kindergarten through 12th to 50 percent. 2. Increase attendance rate for students in kindergarten through 12th grade to the state average of 94.1 percent. 3. Improve completion rate for high school seniors to state average of 83 percent. 4. To increase the effective use of technology. The school programs being used to meet the first three objectives includes a readiness skills program in kindergarten and first grade, reading recovery program in first grade, a pullout reading lab for students in grades two through six, summer compensatory education, vocational programs and special education services. In order to meet the use of technology goals, Dr. Ross said the district has employed a technology coordinator, purchased eight new computers, and "we are in the process of being hooked up to the state computer network system." School imprvovements include adding vocational business and vocational general cooperative education to our curriculum, hiring a technology coordinator, computer hookup to the internet, starting an in-school suspension program, remodeling a storage building to house a new kindergarten through 12th grade library and two new high school classrooms, and painting the interior of the gym. Emmet School continues to provide an after school daycare program for benefit of working parents. The daycare program stays open until 6:00 p.m. daily for a nominal fee.
