PHS To Face Nashville FridayPublished Wednesday, October 2, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThis is the week. Every week from now through November 7 will be the week. The Prescott Curley Wolves must concentrate on each opponent each week at a time. This is, perhaps, the most crucial week. The Wolves will travel to Nashville Friday night to challenge the Scrappers' right to the number one spot in Class AA. Prescott is currently fourth, behind Nashville, Osceolo and Dollarway. The Scrappers are just as strong as last year. They were ranked number one at this time in the season a year ago. The only difference, Prescott last year had not been recognized as a contender for the Class AA championship. The Wolves eventually won the championship, but only after defeating the Scrappers in regular season, 28-13, and in the championship game, 14- 8. It was the first time ever that two teams from the same conference met in the finals for the title. It could happen again. However, there are some obstacles. Nashville is one. Then there will be others, including Osceola and Dollarway, in the play-offs. But first the Scrappers. Nashville cheerleaders and fans are displaying big banners declaring, "We're Back!" When meeting Prescott in years past it has been, "The Who?" Don't look for that one this year after last year's losses to the Wolves. Prescott could brag just as much as Nashville with "We're Back!" We hope that after this week they'll know we're back. This week's game should be a good one, probably the game of the week in the state. It's definitely the most important -- for either team. Last week while Prescott was welcoming Bismarck to the 7AA Conference, 32-0, Nashville was trouncing Class A Bearden, 41-0. This year, as last year, the Scrappers are poison on offense. They're not doing too badly this year on defense either. Ashdown is the only team that has shown any strength against their defense. They'll certainly be tested Friday. Prescott coach Eddie Jackson said Monday that Nashville had it everywhere. They were much improved on defense and their offense had improved over last year. He said their offensive line is 20 pounds heavier (per man) than last year's. Jackson also lamented the Scrappers' returning team. Eight of last year's offensive team returned this year, he said. Prescott has a well-balanced team, offensively and defensively. They just don't run up the score. This week the offense and defense must be prepared and determined. This could be the game to decide the conference champions. In other games last week of interest to Prescott fans:
