Blood Drive Set For October 18th In Gurdon

Published Wednesday, October 9, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

The Arkansas Region of American Red Cross Blood Services and Gurdon Senior Adult Center announce an upcoming blood drive Friday, October 18.

The drive will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. The Gurdon Senior Adult Center is located at 100 East Main.

All area residents are encouraged to donate blood for an Arkansan in need.

Every seven minutes an Arkansan uses blood. Persons who are in serious accidents may use up to 40 units of blood, and a heart transplant patient may need 10 units of blood. Cancer patients receiving medical treatment may need blood or blood products on a regular basis for an undertermined length of time.

The Arkansas Region of American Red Cross provides the total supply of blood to over 80% of Arkansas hospitals. Each day at least 300 units of blood are needed to ensure that the patients receive the blood they need.

Donating blood is safe and easy. Registration, health history, your donation and canteen takes about one hour. The time spent actually giving blood is only about eight minutes.

If you are at least 17 years old and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, you may donate blood on October 18. The life you save may be your own.

For more information about donating blood or the blood drive, call 1-800-448-3543.
