PHS Class Of 1941 GathersPublished Wednesday, October 9, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe 1941 graduates of Prescott High School gathered last weekend for a time of fellowship and reminiscing. Those who arrived Friday night met at the Comfort Inn and enjoyed a visit before going to Norman's for a seafood buffet. Prescott Country Club was the setting for Saturday's activities. Several friends from other classes dropped by in the afternoon to catch up on what had happened since the gathering five years ago. Saturday night everyone enjoyed a catered meal. The tables were decorated with containers of maroon mums placed on white table covers, which carried out the school colors quite beautifully. After eating, Betty Teeter Sloan presided over an informal "talk fest." She brought a video made from the 1941 yearbook, which everyone enjoyed. She asked Dale Simpson to be the master of ceremonies. He read a poem he had written to commemorate the occasion. Members of the class made impromptu speeches covering varied subjects. They were both funny and entertaining as well as serious. Betty proposed toasts to various members of the class who had been recognized for their achievements during the past year (or during a lifetime). Those attending from Prescott were Everett and Anice Ward, Bill and Ann Gordon, Meduis Avery, Bud Vandiver and Pearl (Cornelius) and Buster Payne. Those from out of town were Amy (Barnes) and Reo Sanders of Sherwood, Anine Maude (Blevins) Steed of White House, Texas; Betty (Cox) and Dr. John Barrow of Helena; Opal (Cummings) Knudson and daughter of Waco, Texas; Thomas Elmore of Camden; J.B. and Virginia McGuire of Lebanon, Mo.; Mildred (Parks) Stednitz of North Little Rock; Nina Cathryn (Scott) and Alvin Mabry of Deer Park, Texas; Russell Cantley of Dallas, Texas; Dale and Pat Simpson of Vancouver, Wash.; Asie Lee (Stockton) Rhodes of Decatur, Texas; Audie (Stuart) Wakin of Texarkana, Texas; Betty (Teeter) Sloan of Jonesboro; Betty Jean (Wilson) Burroughs of Hot Springs; Edith (Baker) May of Delight; Dorothty (Wortham) Allen of El Dorado; David Wallace of Little Rock; and Elizabeth (Seal) House and Edna Formby of Powderly, Texas.
