October Is Cancer Awareness MonthPublished Wednesday, October 9, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe American Cancer Society wants to remind you that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and October 18 is National Mammography Day. The American Cancer Society also wants to make women in Arkansas aware of the Arkansas Department of Health's breast and cervical cancer control program. The Arkansas breast and cervical cancer control program offers some services free to women who qualify. These services are made possible through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. What is availalbe? Mammograms, clinical breast exams, Pap smears, colposcopy, and treatment referrals when necessary. How can you participate? 1.+Call your county health department, community health center or AHEC at 887-2004. and tell them you want to find out if you are eligible for a free mammogram or Pap smear. 2.+Be prepared to tell them the number of people that live in your household and your total income. 3.+Make an appointment to get into the program if you are eligible. 4.+Keep your screening appointment!
