Russell To Lead '96 Christmas Seal Campaign In CountyPublished Wednesday, October 23, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesDavid Russell of Arkadelphia has been selected to lead the 1996 Christmas Seal Campaign in Clark County for the American Lung Association of Arkansas. Through the annual campaign, county residents keep kinds from smoking and aid children who struggle to breathe with their asthma. As county chairperson, Russell has set the goal for Clark County at $1,800 and is asking people to answer their Christmas Seal appeal letter generously. The Christmas Seal campaign runs through December. "When you give to Christmas Seals, you know that you will be helping someone right here in Clark County," Russell commented. "Ninety cents of every dollar raised by Christmas Seals stays in Arkansas," he said, "and is used for patient education and research programs to fight lung diseases. "The lung association is researching cures for dread diseases such as cancer, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. More than 230,000 people in Arkansas suffer with incurable lung disease right now," Russell said. "That's why it is so important to give generoulsly this year. The need has never been greater," he said. This year's colorful Christmas Seals, 53 different stickers per sheet, were designed by the children of America, and are perfect for decorating your holiday cards and packages. Arkansas' Christmas Seal was painted by Rachel West of Drasco and pictured a holiday home on a Christmas tree ornament.
