Clark County Fair Is September 13-18BY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, September 8, 1999 in the Gurdon Times It's time for the annual Clark County Fair. This year's theme will be "We're Looking Fine In 99," with the fair to be held Sept. 13-18, at the Clark County Fairgrounds. The fair will begin with the Fair Queen Pageant Monday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at Arkansas Hall on the campus of Henderson State University. All exhibits must be registered between noon and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, with the exceptions being plants, baked goods, fruits and vegetables, crops, livestock and fine arts. The midway opens with Armband Day, starting at 5 o'clock Tuesday, with all livestock, poultry and rabbits to be entered by 7 p.m.. Wednesday sees the first judging, starting at 1 p.m. for horticulture and farm crops, ornamental plants and flowers and baked items. Entries in these categories must be done from 8 a.m. until noon. Fine arts will register from 9-10 a.m., with judging also to be done at 1 o'clock. Entries for the pretty baby contest must be made between 9-10 a.m. as well. All commercial booths must be set up by 5 p.m., with the parade scheduled for 5 o'clock Wednesday as well down Main Street. When fair goers hit the midway, those with armbands will again get breaks on the prices inside. Once the parade ends, the education building will open, with swine, sheep and goat shows on tap starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be drawings for door prizes at the commercial building at 9:30 p.m. Little is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16. The educational building will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. It will again be armband day and the beef and dairy judging will be done at 6 p.m. Drawings for door prizes will again be held at the commercial building at 9:30 p.m. The rodeo starts at 8 p.m. Friday, competing with Badger, Knight and Go-Devil football games. Door prizes will be drawn for at 10 p.m., again at the commercial building. Saturday opens with the 4-H Poultry Chain Sale at 10 a.m. This will be followed at 10:30 a.m. by the annual George Sharp Junior Livestock Sale. This sale is always one of the highlights of the fair as it helps students prepare for the next level of competition. This level is the Third District Livestock Show and Rodeo in Hope. The Third District Show is scheduled for Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 this year. Once the livestock sale has been completed, there will be an appreciation lunch for the buyers. From there, it's kiddie day at the carnival, with a pee wee show at 7 p.m. Those planning to be in the pee wee show must register by noon Friday, Sept. 10. Livestock will be released at 9 p.m., with more drawings for door prizes set for 10 p.m. at the commercial building. All exhibits must be picked up between 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19. Those not picked up will forfeit any awards won with no exceptions. Advance reduced priced armbands must be bought before 4:30 p.m. Monday.
