Mom's in Touch first international Arkansas state rally with the founder, Fern Nichols, will be September 9 in Little Rock. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, August 26, and September 23. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind checks. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213. If your child will have his or her third or fourth birthday before September 15 or will have a fifth birthday after September 15, then you could receive free teaching materials to prepare your child for school. This offer is made through HIPPY. Call 887-0914, 887-0360 or 887-3210 to ask about HIPPY. The deadline for entering the Nevada County Fair Queen pageant. is July 30. Pageant dates and ages are: Tiny Miss 2-3; Little Miss 4-5; Petite Miss 6-7 and Young Miss 8-10, Thursday, September 2. Saturday, September 4, will include Junior Miss 11-12; Teen Miss 13-15 and Miss 16-21. The pageants wills start at 6 p.m. each night. If you are interested in entering the pageant, you may pick up an entry form at the Chamber of Commerce, 116 East 2nd Street, Prescott. If you have any questions call Lisa McClure, pageant director, at 887-3399 or 887-2339. Registration is ongoing for the fall classes at the University of Arkansas Community College in Hope. Nevada County farmers are selling their produce at the Farmer's Market each week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until sold out at the Prescott City Park. If you are a Nevada County farmer with produce to sell, contact the Extension office at 887-2818 or Mary Godwin at 887-2101 for additional information concerning this opportunity to market your goods. The Chamber of Commerce has for sell some 1999 Chicken and Egg Festival T-shirts. We have a limited number of these left over. They are on sell for $5. Drop by or call the Chamber at 887-2101. Vacation Bible school is August 2-5 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hope Church of Christ. The theme will be 'The Miracles of Jesus,' for ages 2 through grade 6. For transportation call 777-4569. The 1999 Nevada County Fair books are now available. Fair books will be placed throughout the county in the next week or so, or they can be picked up at the county extension office. The Nevada County Fair is August 31 through September 4 this year. Check-in times have changed this year, so be sure to pick up your copy of the fair book as soon as possible. Morris Baptist Church will be in revival through July 30 each night at 7:30. Bro. James Doyle Glass will be doing the preaching. There will be special music each night. Messengers of Hope will be singing Friday night. The Nevada County Library Board and the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce would like to invite you to a retirement reception in honor of Helen Miller. The reception will be held today, Wednesday, July 28, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. It will be held at the Nevada County Library. The Emmet School board will have its regular meeting Monday, August 2, at 7 p.m. in room 4. The agenda will include building program, elementary and high school principals' reports, superintendent's report, consider changing September meeting to September 13 and personnel matters. Beverly Gail and George Paul Jones of Hope are proud to announce the birth of their son, Alexander Paul, on Thursday, July, 22, 1999, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. He weighed 5 pounds and one ounce and was 18 inches long. Grandparents are Gene and Donna Pope of Rosston and Louise Jones of Hope. Keith and Pauline Williams of Prescott are announce the birth of their son, Parker Wade, on Friday, July 9, 1999, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Parker weighed 7 pounds and 7+ ounces and was 19 inches long. He was welcomed home by his big sister, Brittney. Nevada School is having summer library hours for Nevada students every Thursday from 8:15 to 11:30 a.m. Story time is 9:30 to 10:00. Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Cale will be in revival services August 1-6 each night at 7:30. Bro. Trey Harrison will be doing the preaching. Rev. Arthur Purifoy of Rockford, Ill., will be the guest speaker Sunday night, August 1, at 7:30 at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, 506 West Warren St., Prescott. He is the son of the late Thurman and Narvis Purifoy and a native of Bluff City. The public is invited to attend. There will be a musical benefit for Sis. Annette Kirby and family whose home was destroyed by a fire last month. The benefit will be Saturday night, July 31, at 7:30 at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. All surrounding churches are invited to attend. Sweet Home Baptist Church will be having its annual homecoming August 1 at 2:30 p.m. Special guest will be Rev. Bill Ray Roberts, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in DeAnn. Revival is in progress at Macedonia Baptist Church in Boughton and will continue through July 29. It begins at 7:00 each night.
