Denton Attends WorkshopPublished Wednesday, July 28, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneWalt Denton was recently in Hot Springs to represent Prescott at a live factory model simulation workshop sponsored by Entergy's Teamwork Arkansas. The workshop was a pilot program to introduce the community to training for local companies open to improving their manufacturing process. Taught by Steve Frech and Tim Stillwell, both of Lockwood Greene Consulting of Atlanta, Ga., the day-long workshop teaches participants the concept of a 'cellular manufacturing system' by assuming the role of managers of a fictitious widget factory. This workshop is a live factory model simulation with an interactive learning approach that is designed to familiarize manufacturers with alternative concepts, techniques and benefits that will lead to new and innovative ways to improve productivity, efficiencies and profits. According to Teamwork's Flave Carpenter, "This workshop has been successfully used for operational improvement at many companies, including McDonnell Douglas, Pepsi-Cola International, TRW, Maytag, Lucent Technologies, Nissan and Caterpillar. The workshop was offered to economic development specialists looking for ways to help their existing industry solve problems and achieve a competitive advantage. Denton is executive director of the Prescott/Nevada County Economic Development Office. For more information, call Carpenter at Teamwork Arkansas at 501-377-4441.
