"I'm disgusted with what she said," the mother continued, "but I expect the same treatment for her as others who call names. I know what she said was horrible, but I've heard others called worse names and not be suspended."

It was pointed out the rules are different for buses and classrooms. A student is given three warnings on a bus for such action as name calling and is then removed from the bus.

In the physical plant, the handbook doesn't call for three warnings before a suspension. Gills said he has suspended others without warning as well.

The young lady said this suspension will be on her permanent record and will prevent her from participating in the Close-Up program this year. Students who have been suspended are not allowed to be involved with Close-Up.
