School Supply DrivePublished Wednesday, July 28, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneSchool is just around the corner, and that means parents will soon be busy getting together the supplies their children will need for the coming school year. It costs around $25 for the paper, pencils, crayons, scissors, backpacks, etc., that one child will need. For some families that is a hardship, especially multiplied by several children, pairs of shoes, and clothes to cover the inches the summer has added. This is the eighth year First Presbyterian Church has sponsored a school supply drive to help the children of the community. Last year with everyone's help, the drive was able to put together 50 sets of school supples for grades K-4. This year the group is hoping to be able to do 75, including backpack and kindergarten mats. "We encourage you, as a member of our community, to by an extra bottle of glue, a spiral notebook or box of crayons," a news release said, "and place them in the drop boxes located at Holly's Health Mart, Taylor's Big Star, Dollar General, Bank of Prescott and Nevada County Branch Bank of Delight." You can also drop the item off at the First Presbyterian Church between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 noon. A list of school supplies will be attached to each of the drop boxes. If you would like to make a monetary donation you may do so by mailing it to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 652, Prescott, or you may take it by the church, which will purchase the needed school items. All donations will be used to help the needy children in this area. "It takes so little effort for all our children to have the basic tools they need to help them learn," the release said. "And we, the community, reap the benefits. The school supplies drive will end Monday, August 16. If you have any questions concerning the drive call at 887-2518. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
