Game two for the Nevada Bluejays didn't go as well as their season opener.

Of course they were on the road to Saratoga, home of one of the toughest squads in the state.

When the smoke cleared, the Bulldogs returned to their kennels with a 91-74 win, and the Jays were 1-1 on the year.

The 'Dogs jumped on the Jays early in taking a 27-16 lead after one and enjoying a 51-39 halftime advantage. Saratoga led by 21 after three with the score 75-54.

The tandem of Sam McDonald and Tim Green paced the 'Dogs with 22 points each. McDonald netted two treys, while Green sent three through the nylon from long range. Derek Scott added a pair of threes as well, while scoring 10 points. Ace Stuart scored 14 as well.

The Jays, again, were led by Joseph Young with 17 points. Lamar Haynie was the only other Jay in double figures with 13.

Both teams shot well from the free throw line as Nevada connected on 17 of 30, while the 'Dogs were 18 of 32.

Fouls were a problem for the Jays as two members of the team watched part of the contest from the pines after fouling out. Ricardo Young, who scored eight points, left the game with 2:43 left, while Mike Lowe watched more of the battle from the bench after fouling out with 6:01 remaining.

JUNIOR BOYS

Nevada's junior boys gained a measure of revenge for their senior counterparts by thrashing the junior 'Dogs 67-24.

The Jays took control of the contest in the opening period and kept momentum on their side throughout the contest.

At the end of one, Nevada held a 21-5 lead and was in command 37-12 at intermission. The Jays advantage blossomed to 55-14 at the end of three as the Nevada squad cruised in the final period.

Jamarrio Beasley paved the way for the Jay win with a baker's dozen, followed by Recco Holliman's even dozen.

Reggie Lewis led the 'Dogs with 14 points.

Both teams shot about the same from the charity stripe as the host 'Dogs were eight of 18, while the Jays were seven of 16 in the contest.

SENIOR GIRLS

While the end result of the girls' game was the same as that of the Jays, the score wasn't quite as bad as the Lady 'Dogs won 57-51.

The Nevada quintet opened the game by taking a 10-6 lead during the first eight minutes, but found themselves in a horse race in the second as the Lady 'Dogs poured in 19 points to take a 26-16 lead.

The situation didn't improve in the third period as the Lady 'Dogs maintained their lead at 36-29.

Ramona Evans led the Lady Jay scoring attack with 17 points, while compadre Shonda Young netted 11.

The Lady 'Dogs were paced by the 17-point effort of Sharita Walker. Ebony Hopkins sent 15 points through the rim.

The game at the stripe showed a lopsided situation as the host Lady 'Dogs given 60 chances, connecting on 33 of them.

On the other hand, the Lady Jays were 11 of 22 free throws.
