Nevada's senior boys had a Tiger by the tail, but managed to post a 47-44 win over Taylor Friday night.

In fact, the host Tigers took a 12-11 lead at the end of the first period, and maintained their tenuous advantage at 20-18 when the buzzer sounded ending the first half.

The Bluejays responded in the third quarter by tying the contest, but needed a strong fourth period for the victory.

Ricardo Young led the way for the Jays with 12 points. Casey Curtis and Lamar Haynie were next with seven each.

The Tigers were led by Rob Bland's outside shooting, as he nailed four three-pointers and ended the game with 16 points.

However, free throws proved pivotal as Taylor was one of three and the Jays were five of eight.

SENIOR GIRLS

The Lady Jays completed their part of the three-game sweep over Taylor with a 40-22 win.

The Lady Jays were consistent in their scoring, while the defense kept the Lady Tigers off balance.

Nevada opened with a 10-1 first period and went to the locker room at halftime with a 17-7 lead.

The situation didn't improve any for the home team in the second half as the Lady Jays were up 27-16 after three.

Ramona Evans was Nevada's leading scorer with 14 points, with Crystal Lowe, Deloris Wincher and Shonda Young all scoring six each.

The tamed Lady Tigers were led by Jennifer Rogers with six.

At the charity stripe, the Taylor girls were six of 11, while the Nevada five connected on 10 of 24.

JUNIOR BOYS

The sweep actually began with the junior Jays blasting the Tiger Cubs 51-21 in the opening game.

The game was relatively close for one quarter, the first, as the Jays took an 11-5 lead. But the Nevada defense stiffened and only allowed two points in the second quarter as the Jays went to intermission with a 22-7 lead.

With the game essentially over, the Jays cruised in the third, adding another 14 points to their tally in going up 36-18 and sailed to the win.

Keon Page and Jamarrio Beasley scored 13 each for the Jays.

D. Britt scored five for Taylor.

The Tiger Cubs were five of 13 at the charity stripe, while the Jays sent eight of 19 through the nets.

The Jays senior teams and junior boys will tangle with Stephens Thursday night, with the opening game starting at 6:30.
