UA Receives Royalty Check

Published Wednesday, July 28, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

The University of Arkansas received a royalty check in the amount of $59,454.35 from Embrex, Inc. for the use of the viral neutralizing factor (VNF) technology developed by UA researchers from the poultry science and biochemistry departments.

In 1988, the VNF technology was licensed to Embrex based at Research Triangle Park, N.C., to develop a vaccine called BDA Blen for an infectious bursal disease of poultry known as gumboro. Embrex has paid the university more than $152,000 in royalties since 1993.

In 1996, the university received the University to Private Industry Award for its VNF technology at the annual awards celebration of the Arkansas Technology Transfer Society in Little Rock.

UA researchers in the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences poultry science department are collaborating with Embrex to improve vaccinations for Newcastle and bronchitis viruses for use on 18-day old chicken embryos.
