ASP Hopes All Obey Traffic Laws While TravelingPublished Wednesday, November 20, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesArkansas State Police remind motorists traveling over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend to watch their speed and wear their seat belts. "More people travel over our roads and highways during the Thanksgiving holiday than any other," State Police director Colonel John R. Bailey said. "If drivers simply would slow down, our troopers would work fewer accidents and especially fewer fatal crashes." According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speed is a factor in approximately 30 percent of all fatal traffic accidents. Last year eight people died in traffic accidents in Arkansas over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which runs from 6:00 p.m. Wednesday until midnight Sunday. State Police also investigated 192 accidents and issued 2,466 speedind tickets. Also, seven out of every ten people killed in traffic accidents in Arkansas during 1995 were not wearing seat belts, according to Traffic Safety Section of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.
