4-H Goes To Camp

Published Wednesday, November 20, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

The Clark County 4-H members met on November 7. They toured the space station and the Henderson State University Aeronautical Center.

The 4-H'ers learned about the contributions being made by the space stations of America's scientific and technological communities. They learned about growning perfect protein crystals for medical studies.

The space center was large and quite cozy with all the space utilized. The living quarters may have looked strange to many, but one has to remember there is no `up' or `down' on the space center station, so sleeping quarters may appear on each wall and floor.

"Where will you be in the year 2002?" the 4-H members were asked. They were told the International Space Station will be up and running by then and that maybe one of them could be there.

The 4-H'ers were delighted when Mr. Jim Wright conducted a tour of the new Henderson State University's Flight Simulator. Each 4-H'er was able to try his hand at flying. The flight simulator is similar to a real plane. The take offs and landings may have been a little shaky, but the 4-H'ers did very well once "in the air".

The 4-H'ers present were Amanda Thomason, Justin Thomason, Michael Thomason, Ashley Webb, Cody Thompson, Chad Thompson, Judy Beaty, Pam Thomason, Sussie Webb and Kathryn Burchfield.
