Where's The Spirit?

Published Wednesday, November 20, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Where's the spirit?

Where's the hurrah?

Last year at this time signs were up on most businesses along Main, showing support for the Curley Wolves.

The signs expressed the happiness and the character of the town because the Curley Wolves were in the state play-offs.

Of course, last year the play-off games were all in Prescott. But where were the signs last week, when the game was in town (and probably the last game in town)? Where was the enthusiasm?

The Curley Wolves are facing their toughest opponent in the play-offs this week at McGehee. They will need the vocal support of every fan who can make the trip. It's an encouragement that cannot be replaced through electronic media.

The excitement is now! The thrill is felt when the big play is made and the crowd roars, showing its approval! The players need this electricity to spark them on to victory!

Let's show our support by going to McGehee Friday night. After all these are the defending Class AA state champions!

The 7AA Conference is one of the strongest in the state. Last year to climax the play-offs, the two top teams met in the finals in War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock -- where the Arkansas Razorbacks play. Those two teams were the Curley Wolves and the Nashville Scrappers.

This year the standings are reversed. Nashville is first and Prescott is second. Let's hope that Prescott will continue to do good for the return match -- just to show what makes them `Curley.'

Prescott is no slouch. The team has done an outstanding job, but there's a lot more to do before the finals. There's a lot of good teams in the play-offs for the Wolves to go through. The next one for the Wolves is McGehee.

All four teams from the 7AA Conference won their games last week. Fordyce beat Nettleton, De Queen eliminated Highland and, of course, Nashville easily handled Perryville.

This week Nashville will host Gravette, Fordyce will travel to Osceola and De Queen will travel to Rivercrest.

Wouldn't be something if all four teams from the 7AA Conference came together in the semi-finals?
