Travels To McGhee Friday (cont)Published Wednesday, November 20, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayuneof 226 yards. The game's leading rusher was James Chandler of Gosnell with 126 yards on 26 carries. Teammate Huffman rushed 19 times for 83 yards. Marlow was Prescott's leading rusher with 94 yards on 15 carries, an average of just over eight yards a rush. Vanhook rushed seven times for 38 yards. Johnston rushed six times for 36 yards for the Wolves, Johnson rushed three times for 21 yards and Stafford rushed four times for 16 yards. Prescott had 22 first downs to Gosnell's 15. Prescott was penalized five times for 44 yards, Gosnell five times for 35 yards. The only turnover was Prescott's in the second quarter. However, the Wolves fumbled four more times, but recovered their own fumbles. The biggest fumble was a snap to Johnston on the game's last play. The snap went over his head and could have gone for a big loss, but Johnston narrowly escaped the pursuit and then gained 11 yards beyond scrimmage for a first down to end the game. According to reports, McGehee has the same type of offense as Gosnell, only better. Maybe the game against Gosnell was a good training program for the Wolves. It certainly will take determination combined with a good executed offensive effort along with an outstanding defense that can read the weird plays of the Owls. All Prescott fans need to be encouraged to make the trip to support the Curley Wolves. Travel Highway 4 East (either from Rosston or Camden) to McGehee, then take Highway 1 North a little ways to the new high school. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
