For the second straight year, the Wolverettes dropped their season opener.

Unfortunately, this year's loss, 69-56, came at the hands of arch-rival Hope, as the Prescott crew had an off night on the hardwood.

This in spite of the fact four members of the team scored in double figures.

However, the Wolverettes were unable to overcome 26 turnovers and some questionable calls from the officials.

Still, when the first period ended, the Wolverettes held a 14-11 lead. Hope's Lady 'Cats responded to tie the game at 27-27 at the half.

From there, though, it was all Hope. The Wolverettes were outscored 15-9 in the third period and 27-22 in the final eight minutes.

Leslie Hines and Laura Culpepper led the Prescott quintet with 15 each, while Gladies Gulley contributed 14 and Stacy Stockton netted 10.

Hines also connected on four three pointers in the contest. Culpepper pulled down eight boards, while Gulley and Stockton managed four rebounds each.

The Prescott five was .500 at the line, connecting on eight of 16 free throw attempts, while the Lady 'Cats were 12 of 21 from the charity stripe.

Hope was led by V. Williamson's 20, including two treys, while Patti Robinson ripped the cords for 16.

"Their mindset wasn't there," Coach Cecily Butler said. "We didn't have the leadership we needed from our seniors.

"Jessica (Hildebrand) is out forward general out there and made some bad passes.

"We weren't there mentally," she said of her team.

However, Butler said Hope does have a good team and the Wolverettes couldn't find a way to shut Williamson down.

Last year, the Prescott crew dropped its season opener to Dierks, but wound up winning the district and regional tournaments on its way to the state playoffs.

CUBETTES

Prescott's Cubettes edges Lakeside's junior girls team 30-23 in a game played Thursday, Nov. 21 in Hot Springs.

The Cubettes were outscored in the final six minutes (8-4), but had the game in hand by this time.

They opened with a 9-4 lead at the end of one and were up 16-10 at the break. By the end of the third quarter, the Cubettes were in command 26-15.

Both squads pulled down 18 boards, with turnovers also close. Prescott committed 17 and forced Lakeside to turn the ball over 19 times.

Traci Graham led the Cubettes with nine, while Jeanie Haynie contributed eight in the win.

Butler said her junior team is looking good at this point in the season.

The Wolverettes will get a chance to gain a measure of revenge against Hope as they entertain the 'Cats Dec. 3, as the junior varsity boys and both senior squads take the court.

Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
