The reception will take place during the capitol arts and crafts show. Cookies and punch will be served during the reception. More than 50 Arkansas crafters will have goods for sale on the first and second floors of the Capitol. The building will be decorated for Christmas.

Santa Claus will be available to visit with children at his castle in the second floor rotunda during the open house.

Lights on the official state Christmas tree will be turned on at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, in front of the State Capitol building, Secretary of State, Sharon Priest has announced.

The tree, a 35-foot-tall eastern red cedar, will bear about 50,000 lights. It was donated to the state by Jim Hensley of Springfield in Conway County and was transported to the Captiol by the State Forestry Commission.

State officials will attend the tree lighting ceremony and the Williams Magnet School choir will perform.

The lighting of the Capitol and the 75 county trees known as `Trees Across Arkansas' will take place at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, December 7.
