Storm Hits County Sunday

An area west of Laneburg was hit with a sudden, severe storm Sunday evening.

The storm, according to Jim Cross, Office of Emergency Services coordinator for Nevada County, blew up quickly and ended just as fast, but demolished two barns and damaged one car as a limb was blown down on it.

The microburst storm, he said, came with severe downdraft winds which blew several trees down.

Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown called out Nevada County Rescue Unit personnel along with members of the county road crew to help get the roads cleared in the area.

Cross said volunteers also arrived at the scene bringing chainsaws and tractors to help cut and move trees from the road.

Fortunately, there were no injuries from the storm damage.
