When Gurdon and Prescott meet on the field of athletic competition, it's always a good game for the fans.

Things were no different when the Prescott roundball teams visited Gurdon Tuesday, Nov. 26, as the Devils took two of three contests.

The night opened with the Prescott junior boys posting a 45-37 win. From there, it was all Gurdon

as the Devils took wins against the senior squads.

In the girls junior varsity game, the Lady Devils dominated the Wolverettes 57-40, as the Gurdon defense shut down the high-powered Prescott offense. The Wolverettes connected on a scant 13 of 63 from the field in the game.

The Lady Devils opened strong, taking a 16-8 lead in the first period.

Neither team shot well in the second stanza, but the Lady Devils outscored their arch-rivals 5-3 to take a 21-11 lead to the locker room at intermission.

Gurdon came out hot in the third quarter, pushing its lead to 42-25 as the Lady Devil's owned the hardcourt.

Both squads added 15 points to their tally in the final frame, with Gurdon leading by more than 20 at one time.

Tameka Hatley scorched the nylons for 19 points to lead all scorers in the game. Alicia Clayborn also had a hot hand as she poured in 13.

Stacy Stockton led the Wolverettes with 15 points, while Jessica Hildebrand canned 11.

The Lady Devils shot well from the charity stripe, converting eight of 10 attempts. Prescott also did well from the line, netting 13 in 20 tries.

DEVILS -- 61

WOLVES -- 53

Gurdon repaid Prescott for an earlier loss in Prescott at the hands of the Wolves.

The Devil offense was red hot, while its defense kept the Wolves ice cold in the opening frame, as Gurdon took control 21-9 and never looked back.

To Prescott's credit, the Wolves did battle back somewhat as they narrowed the gap to 31-22 at the half.

However, Gurdon was not to be denied as the Devils fought to maintain their lead at 43-35 after three.

Mario Charles led the Devil assault forces with 14 points. Corey Marsh and Terry Cornish followed with 11 each, while Eric Hatley contributed 10 in the win.

Prescott was paced by Jason Webb's game high 24. Scott Hobbs netted 11.

Both teams connected on six free throws, with Gurdon getting 15 shots and Prescott taking 14 from the line.

CUBS -- 45

DEVILS -- 37

The only blemish on Gurdon's sweep was in the junior boys game, won 45-37 by the Curley Cubs.

The Devils won the first half, leading 15-11 at the end of one, and 26-22 as the buzzer sounded ending the first half of play.

But Prescott won the second half, as the Cubs blanked the Devils in the third period in taking a 30-36 lead and holding on for the victory.

Sampson Kadiri led the Devils with 13 points, including three treys, while Derek Anderson contributed 10, with two threes.

Overall, the Gurdon offense came from its long-range attack as the team nailed seven three-point shots in the contest.

The Cubs were led by Brian Woodley with 16, and Matt Brannon's 10.
