Fair Drawing Near; Starting EarlyBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, July 28, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Believe it or not, as we head into August the Nevada County Fair Association is gearing up for an early start. This year's Nevada County Fair will run Aug. 31 through Sept. 4, at the fairgrounds, with the tiny miss, little miss, petit miss and young miss to take center stage Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. Those in the junior miss, teen miss and Miss Fair Queen divisions will be featured Saturday, Sept. 4, at 6 o'clock. And, this also means anyone planning on entering the Fair Queen Pageant must hurry up and do it as the deadline is Friday, July 30. Once again the categories will be for tiny miss, little miss, petit miss, young miss, junior miss, teen miss and Miss Fair Queen. For those entering ages 2-12, the entry fee will be $30 and will include the category for best dressed. The entry fee for contestants age 13-21 will be 45, with these divisions: best dressed, swimsuit in the miss segment only, congeniality, interview and sportswear. For an additional $5, all ages can compete in the photogenic category. In the beauty portion of the contests judges will be instructed to judge each contestant in the areas of beauty, personality, posture, stage presence, overall appearance and modeling (for those age four and up). Contestants in the photogenic category will be required to furnish an 8X10 color photograph in a plastic sleeve, to be turned in when the entry form is submitted. Those entering are asked for the photos only and to bring no frames. Contestants names, addresses, phone numbers, age and the category they're competing in should be on the back of the picture. The photos will be returned at the end of the pageant. Contestants are asked not to bring glamor shots or photos from previous pageants. No pictures will be taken after the July 30 deadline and there will be no exceptions made. Contestants in the pageant must be residents of Nevada County, or have lived in the county or attended a school in the county for at least six months prior to the pageant date. The contestants may not be, nor ever have been pregnant or married and no professional models can compete. Pageant contestants are encouraged to participate in the Nevada County Fair Parade. Those who do may use either the fair queen theme or the fair theme. When time comes for the pageants, all contestants are required to report to the Potlatch Building at the fairgrounds no later than 5:30 p.m. on the evening they will be competing. Applications may be turned in to Lisa McClure, 203 Kathryn, Prescott, or at the Nevada County Ambulance Service, 237 Hale Ave., Prescott.
