Gurdon High To Establish Hall Of FameBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 4, 1996 in the Gurdon Times By JOHN MILLER Former Gurdon athletes and coaches will soon be honored as the Gurdon School District instills an Athletic Hall of Fame. A committee has been appointed and met twice to determine the criteria for membership. First, membership is limited to GHS athletes or coaches, male or female. Nominations can either be made by individuals or members of the committee. These names should be sent in writing to: Hall of Fame Committee, 314 School Street, Gurdon, AR 71743. Deadline for nominations for the 1996-97 school year is Jan. 17, 1997. But, for an individual player to be eligible for induction into the hall, they must have graduated five years previously. There is no waiting period for coaches. Coaches must have an outstanding achievement during their tenure at GHS. Athletes, on the other hand, must be considered to have been a good role model, have received awards during their careers, such as All- State or All-District, and have other achievements in the field of athletics. They also must have participated in college in a major sport. However, a former player doesn't have to have all the above criteria to be nominated. The credentials of each nominee will be verified prior to the date, as a whole, will review, March 1, 1997. These individuals will be inducted into the Gurdon Athletic Hall of Fame in April or May, 1997. Individuals can be considered for membership more than once, if not inducted when first nominated. Additionally, the committee can remove someone from membership if conditions warrant. An induction banquet will be sponsored by the district in either April or May to honor the inductees. Each inductee will receive complimentary tickets for them and their immediate family. Tickets will be sold to others wishing to attend.
