Events That Matter To Gurdon & Southern Clark County

Gurdon Basketball Booster Club is now being formed. You may purchase a membership at any home basketball game. Come out and support the Gurdon Go Devils basketball teams and have the opportunity to make a donation, shoot free throws, or shoot a half court shot. Prizes will be awarded.


The Church of God will present a Christmas contata entitled "Home for the Holidays", under the direction of Jimmy Purifoy. The performance will be on December 8 at 6:30 p.m. The choir includes members from the congregations of Little Rock, Gurdon and Benton.


V.F.W. Post 4689 will have its annual Christmas party on December 6 at 6 p.m. at the Gurdon Municipal Building. All V.F.W. members and spouses are invited to attend.


Alcoholics Anonymous has open meetings on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8 p.m. at the American Legion Building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon. For information phone 353-6138.


Narcotics Anonymous meets every Monday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Seventh and Crittenden in Arkadelphia. For more information call 353-6612 or 245-2982.


The Division of Music and the Department of Theatre Arts of the Bernice Young Jones School of Fine Arts at OBU will present its annual Festival of Christmas program on December 5 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing arts Center.

The program is free and the public is invited to attend. Tickets may be ordered by calling 501-245-5129.


Everyone is invited to attend a retirement party for Pat Hasley, Clark County Treasurer December 6, 1996 in the Clark County Courtroom. The party will began at 2:30 and go until 4:30 p.m.


Arkansas Rehabilitation Services will be in Gurdon, December 12, at the Municiple Building Conference Room A, 8:30 until 11:30. For more information call 353-25144


The Clark County Historical Association will meet Sunday, December 8, at 2:00 p.m. in McClellan 100, Ouachita Baptist Univaersity. 1997 officers will be elected. Following a brief business meeting, Jeannie Whayne, associate professor of history at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and editor of the Arkansas Historical Quarterly, will present the afternoon's program, "Arkansas in the Great Depression." The public is invited.


Great Christmas present! "We Were There; Clark Countians in World War II," a beautiful hardbound book published by the Clark County Historical Association. Available for $20 at both Gurdon banks.


Mauva Sue Humphries of Gurdon has returned home after a trip through norhtern Arkansas on a sightseeing trip with Mr. and Mrs. Harold McCullough of Conway. They visited in Eureka Springs, Harrison, Fayetteville and into Missouri. Sandra Deaton met Mrs. Humphuries in Little Rock and they returned home Friday, November, 22. She also spent several days in Conway with the McCulloughs.


Anyone who wishes to nominate a former player or coach to be inducted in the Go-Devil Hall of Fame may do so by submitting their name or names to: Hall of Fame Committee, 314 School Street, Gurdon, AR 71743.

Deadline for submitting nominations for the 1996-97 school year is January 17, 1997.


Carrol and Amelia Hollingshead hosted the Hollingshead family reunion in their Richwoods home on Thanksgiving Day.

Those attending were Annie Hollingshead Wood of Gurdon, Dr. Carl and Peggy Koen of Pine Bluff, Kyle and Debbie Hollingshead of Richwoods, Norma Hollingshead Hilton, Brian and Debi Caldwell, Cody and Kayla of Gurdon, Charles Hollingshead of Arkadlephia, Ralph and Bill Hollingshead and Beth Hollingshead Ferguson of Houston, Texas, Charles and Helen Hollingshead of Fort Worth, Texas, Bill and Elaine Fambrough and DeWanda Fambrough of Smackover, and Dr. Howard and Glenda Corley, Kim and David of Houston.

A Family Heritage Cookbook was shared and fond family memories were enjoyed by all.
